Now for the Whitsundays part 2 of the Australian adventure. We arrived barely by airplane. I guess it is quite common for the fly around and give it another go route. Had I known, I would have tried harder to get us a flight to Prosperine and then bus to Airlie Beach. Plane finally worked out and then we caught last ferry to Airlie. Stopped at a bottle shop and hiked the hill up towards our digs for the week.
La Motte butter is the best butter in the world. Normandy cows make the cream and the fleur de sel crystals are so lovely, thus fleur. We can get the blue kind (salted) at one local grocery store. Here they sell both. They were spotted at each and every grocery store, even the ones in the metro stops in Sydney. So lucky. Really best butter and not a drop of anglais on the container. Real French Butter.
Blogger switched up this one. Beer list from the amazing bottle shop down the road. Over 500 world varieties of beer. THis is from the Aussie section. Beer in the middle is called My Wife's Bitter. Ha
Again with the switch up Blogger. THis our deserted coral beach we hiked to. More on that later.
Our Monday morning view. stunning right. So pretty. It was never again this nice out. Rain and grey skies the rest of the week. Poo.
Selfie of me from balcony eating area. this was a condo style hotel. Full apartment with full kitchen, dining room interior, dining room exterior. Lovely place to call home for the week.
Chad and the giant Ripcurl Backpack. I doubt he would take that on any trip to Colorado.
Oops, someone forgot about their boat. There was another 3 mast beauty beached in the bay. Common place to forget about your boat. Yikes.
Our first Australia Barbecue. Grills in Australia are more like a pan. These Tbones were juicy and delicious. A little pat of butter on there does the trick.
The skies over the Whitsundays. We did make it out on a snorkel trip but the French guys across from us on the boat can attest to how choppy the water was. At one point, a cup of coffee was dripping from the ceiling after taking a huge dip in a wave wake. Still pretty just grey.
Proof that my 11 year old beach shorts are still making trips around the world. Been everywhere these shorts. Still ticking so maybe another trip?
My Chad on the most beautiful beach. Whithaven Beach is 97% silica. Just about perfect. No stones or shells to break up that sugar like texture. Voted the third most beautiful beach in the world. We had our lunch there and tried to stay dry. Our receptionist from the hotel said at times, it is so white, you have to avert your eyes. Even with Sunnies on!
Our snorkel trip boat pulled into harbor next to these beauts. Lulu is my sister's nickname. She may punch you if you call her that. Next time we will be sailing certified and come back to rent this one or...
Maybe this one. In my honor. Just made me laugh that they were back to back in the harbor.
Our common alarm clock (very noisy) and often visitor during our morning coffee on the balcony.
back to the Coral Beach. We hiked here since our reef adventure had been canceled. Found out that the Wednesday reef adventure actually became the overnight adventure as the channel was full of 5 meter seas and negotiating that in a giant catamaran was not advisable. Had the Wednesday tour not been stranded, it may have been us stranded out on the reef until Friday. Bad all around as that was day to exit the Whitsundays once again. Our receptionist was so lovely and felt so bad that we were not having the Whitsunday experience but rather the Wet Sunday experience so she sent us out to find this coral beach. Rain along the way but then it cleared up. We were the only ones out at this beach on this day. All to ourselves. Shh, we took a few souvenirs. Perfect abalone shell and some great coral bits to add to our collection.
While walking the trail, we came across a few critters. I changed places with Chad when we came across the first little spider. This one is huge. If you use the log in the background as scale, it comes out to a dinner plate sized spider. Yowza!
The hill we hiked up and down to get to the beach, harbor, restos and our beloved bottle shop. 24% grade is what the sign said. Thus the extra beers. My thighs and buns were burning everytime we climbed down and up.
We will definitely go back and hit Cairns for the reef and possibly back to Whitsundays again when Chad and I can sail a boat. Captain John who we went sailing with in the Caribbean told us it was the best sailing of his life in the Whitsundays. We will have to return. Next segment, Brisbane. Or is that Bris-Rain?
