Home projects

16 May 2010- Since contracting some lovely virus, I have spent many days in Chez Nickell doing many home projects. Always kind of a bummer when you clean the house and do any repairs for an inspection and realize you could have done this long ago and reaped the benefits for more than a month.
New caulk in the bathrooms. Amazing what 4 euros can get you. It looks like a brand new tub and sink. Reinstalled the shower guard, new caulk there too. Shiny and new. Do it at your own home, instant results. Looks like I live in there with the scrub brush and anti-calc cleanser.
Magic Eraser. How on earth did I live without these? They get anything off plaster, baseboards, doors, wood, lite colored paint. Who needs matching touch up paint when a little scrub from Mr. Clean/Propre gets the same result? No more scratches, scuff marks, whatever. Yet another reason to rid of the new house's paint scheme. Couldn't use Magic Eraser on that finish.
Brighter light bulbs. Okay so this one isn't very eco-friendly but we did un-install our light fixtures to re-install the bare bulb fixtures that were here when we got the place. Nothing better than incandescent lighting. Another reason the bathroom is brilliant.
Toilet button. Our button on the commode has been busted for a year. I found one that wasn't 20 euro (??) and Chad "McGyver-ed" it for parts. Now we have lovely new buttons. They only need to stay functional thru June 9. Let's just say the fix did required some engineering on our part. Please hold out until June 9th inspection!
Still need to sell a few things. Holding out hope for a kitchen buyer. Otherwise, new cabinets in the new Houston garage. Really nice cabinets.
Our new house survived inspection with a few things to repair/look after. Nothing major, phew! No termites either. Paint guy gave us a quote to undo the purple/faux marble so we are set and ready for option period to expire. Then, no going back. We are Houston bound and the home projects will multiple exponentially! Of course with 3 sets of deliveries (air freight, storage and shipping container) it will be a while until Chez Nickell Houston location is ready for guests. Not that anyone should visit until October at the earliest anyways. Too hot.

The Day Jenny Atkins Introduced me to The Magic Eraser...was the best day of my life. You caulking your apt is WAY more than we did!

We had to do 2 post move out walkthroughs because the 1st guy was in a bad mood since he had to work through his lunch break. Can you believe that? FRANCE! A Good Start actually did great with that and got a 2nd guy who was more fair to our apt.

How much stuff do you have in your storage shipment???

Most of our stuff is in Houston. Just our bed, dressers made the initial move to France.
