En Greve

23 March 2010- Sunshine and 65 degrees. Loving this end of March. Today was strike day. Organized by the unions but supported by transport, trains, garbage pickup, La Poste, some museums etc. Sunshine, check.

Large stack of tall boy Heineken, sausage sandwiches, check!

Striking retired workers, check!

Party attitude, check.
Really it looked like a small turnout. I think the techno manifestation we encountered in September was more heavily attended. Plus I rode the metro, bus and we had garbage pickup today. Not much of a strike. Chad even managed to get to the airport with no problems. Our guest arrives tomorrow, whew, dodged one trying to get a person with no French to understand how to get to Chez Nickell with a real strike.
Funniest observations of the "greve": children riding around on shoulders with taped signs of "en greve" on their shirts (starting them early), Beastie Boys' "Girls" playing, rolling sausage sandwich stands to aim at the largest parts of the crowd.

This was spotted when leaving the "strike" area. Sarkozy and his right-wing party were handed a big loss on Sunday. I am sure most of you were paying attention to other things political this Sunday. You should know the real socialist party is now in the majority here in France. Sarko has to reshuffle his government to show this.
In lighter news, the best baguette of Paris is found in the 18th arrondissement. Dijibril Bodian on rue des Abbesses. Maybe after my 90 days of working out, I will head there to see if it is really the best.
